A chunk of good news from  BALFA TOUJOURS: ....

J-P Bruneau just received this message from St Martinville, Louisiana

Dec 18, 2001        Dear Friends and Family: At 9:30 this morning we received the most wonderful blessing, our daughter  Amelia  Rose Powell. She's 8lbs. and 4ozs., very healthy, with rosy cheeks and a sweet little pout.

We're overjoyed to have brought her into our lives, which have been enriched by all of you. We feel blessed to overflowing, and now these blessings will spill into a new life and continue to thrive and grow on their own.

The best holiday season to you and all your families. Love,

Dirk,Christine

 BOO ..................         THE  BAD  NEWS.......

From: Scott Billington

 To: Mary Katherine Aldin
 Subject: Charles Chavis

I'm sad to report that Boozoo Chavis's son Charles died of a heart attack
on Saturday night. It's been a rough year for the Chavis family, and
Charles was way too young (in his mid-forties). Charles was the rubboard
player and frontman for Boozoo's band, The Magic Sounds. Condolences may
 be sent to:

 Leona Chavis
 115 Petah Ave.
 Lake Charles, LA 70605

Wendell Forman of the Zydeco Brothers wrote:

Lake Charles, La.: Zydeco musician Charles Chavis (Boozoo's son) died Saturday night, December 22, 2001 of a heart attack in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Charles was an original member of and the rubboard player / vocalist / MC of Boozoo's Magic Sounds band. He sang lead vocals on Boozoo's 1996 Zydeco Hit "What You Gonna Do (When Boozoo's Gone)".

Funeral arrangements are pending with Hixson's Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

The Chavis family has been hit hard during 2001. On May 5th Boozoo passed away. Boozoo's brother James Chavis died a few days earlier. Two days before Thanksgiving (this year), Poncho Chavis (Boozoo's son) was involved in a bad automobile accident and suffered serious injuries and was just recently released from the hospital.

"Charles truly loved Zydeco Music and was an excellent rubboard player and a very good MC. He was passionate about carrying on the traditional style Zydeco that his father helped create. He was especially proud of the bond he had with his father and of the music they recorded and performed. Charles was one of the good guys, he will be missed".
